History

Sayo's mother, a woman named Celine, married very early into the Akiyoshi family at age 16, through an arranged married between her parents and that of her husband, Sato. Celine's family (Neige, a traditional mage family from France) has been arranging marriages for their children with other mage bloodlines for centuries, and hers was no different - the Akiyoshi family, in addition to being a just-as-traditional mage family, was also rather conveniently established in Japan. The perfect opportunity for them to become involved in the war.

The birth of their first child was eagerly expected in the first few years of marriage, but Celine had a series of miscarriages. The pressure from both sides made the couple grow apart, and outside of social circles, they treated each other as acquaintances at best (in spite of sleeping together trying to have a child). Although Celine finally delivered a baby girl twelve years into the marriage, the bond between her and her husband had been permanently weakened - Sayo's birth drove the two of them apart for good, and although they still live together in the same house, it's hardly as husband and wife any longer.

In spite of her parents' relationship, Sayo was very pampered as a child and showered with gifts and attention. There was never much love, but neither the parents nor the child seemed to mind that too much - from a very early age, Sayo took a great liking to developing her powers, often neglecting social activities just to play around with them. She never frequented school, receiving most of her education from tutors at home (although studying never interested her much, she did so for the sake of pleasing her parents - it was much easier to get more things and attention from them when they were proud of her, after all).

As a child her favorite passtime was to play pranks on people aided by her powers and natural cunning - and the habit carried over into her teens, when she'd play many boys into showering her with gifts until she got bored and moved on to the next victim; and into her adulthood, when her acts and lies developed into a taste for actually conning people. She's always done things for the sake of the rewards that come with them - regardless of how honorable or not those things may be.

Now 24, Sayo doesn't have a fixed occupation, instead fluttering from job to job depending mostly on what act she's playing. She isn't particularly thrilled about participating in the war, but the idea of getting a wish granted isn't exactly bad either, so she neither likes nor dislikes it - just plays along, as she would when pulling one of her cons on someone. It's potentially rewarding, so why not?

Personality

Having been taught by tutors in her own home, and never having had to work due to the family's fortune, she never really developed much of a social life - except where trickery was involved. She'll gladly participate in social gatherings if it's part of her act to fool someone into giving her what she wants, but otherwise prefers solitude or the company of one or two people. In spite of that, she's personable and laid back most of the time, her speech and mannerisms far from mirroring the education she's received.

Due to her habit of putting on acts, she's a bit of a compulsive liar, and never expects others to be telling the truth, either. It's nearly impossible to actually get the truth out of her - she's eager to earn trust in order to fool people more easily, and being a master of trickery herself, she hardly ever trusts anyone. Sayo never talks about herself, even to people who know her personally, and tends to go off on a tangent if people get pushy. She doesn't take kindly to criticism and gets snarky and defensive when confronted about something. Sayo is also rather vain and selfish, always putting her own interests above other people's.

When acting, she can pretty much shift her personality to whatever it is that fits the situation best - and being quite the good actress, it's very hard to tell she's not being truthful. She partially took into the conning business for the thrill of it, partially for the feeling of satisfaction after a successful con. However, Sayo gets bored very easily, and this satisfaction tends to not be very lasting.

Appearance

Standing at roughly 5'8", Sayo is moderately athletic and takes good care of her appearance, even though she can simply mask it as she wishes. She has chin-length black hair and deep dark eyes, and her features are mostly asian due to her father's side of the family. When being herself she likes to wear whatever looks good and feels comfortable enough.

Powers

She's fairly powerful, if only because she's focused a lot on developing her powers since they're quite useful to her. Sayo focuses mostly on powers of illusion and trickery, such as disguising herself as people she's seen and on a lesser level being able to temporarily alter the appearances of objects and rooms (although the latter takes a considerable amount more energy). On the downside, she's unable to mask the Reiju, so long sleeves are a must when taking the form of someone else.
